Introducing Mettler-based approach to dance as a creative art experience with a special focus on the unity of sound and movement.  Classes will focus on the many permutations of sound and its relationship with movement: through body percussion, vocal sounds, spoken word, percussive instruments and more!  Prior dance experience is not needed.

Apr. 3, 4, 2017: Green Field School Residency

2 half-day classes with students from Grades 5 – 9 as part of the school’s Interim Art Week.   Together with Co-Teacher, Meg Quinn, we introduced the students to a few basic elements of Mettler-based creative dance, such as using our bodies as instruments of movement expressions, making individual and group shapes, dancing with cloth and dancing with drums and shakers.  A fun time was had by all!

Exploring movement expressions through improvisation techniques founded upon the free approach to dance and movement pioneered by Barbara Mettler.   No prior dance experience needed.

Since 2014, I have worked with Mettler Studios to assist 8 staff members from Vietnam and 7  representatives from Indonesia to attend the Mettler Studios Creative Dance Teacher Training workshop held annually in Tucson, AZ.  Currently 3 organizations in Vietnam have incorporated Mettler-based Creative Dance in their rehabilitation and reintegration process for women rescued from human trafficking and gender-based violence.  Mettler-based creative dance has also been integrated into the dance curriculum at the Yogyakarta Institute of the Arts.  This multi-level program is part of my ongoing commitment to collaborate with local organizations, artists, students and volunteers; to encourage self-sustaining and active engagement in community work within local communities.
